Training of J&K students in city hotels

jammu_city
Luxury hotels in the city are set to become the classrooms for numerous students from Jammu and Kashmir for training in hotel management.

A total of 30 students from the country’s northern-most State are being given skill development training at The Royal Orchid Hotel, where the first batch started on Friday.

For the students, this provides a chance to obtain training in tourism and hospitality that is hard to get in J&K. With numerous luxury hotels operating in the hill State, many students told The Hindu that the training would contribute to the burgeoning tourism sector back home. “If we work in Kashmir after the training, it will help enhance the economic development of the State,” said Inayat Hussain. The first batch includes five women who have started making foray into the hospitality sector there.

The training will take place over six months, with three months being hands-on experience at The Royal Orchid Hotel. C.K. Baljee, managing director of the hotel group, said they ultimately wanted to train 5,000 students through virtual classrooms and interactive video sessions.
