Student Practices Hotel Management at Hershey Entertainment & Resorts

HIGH POINT, N.C., July 6, 2015 – High Point University rising senior Ashley Angle is exploring the world of guest services and hotel management through her summer internship at Hershey Entertainment & Resorts in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Angle, originally from Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, works as the VIP Guest Services Intern at the Hershey Lodge and the Hotel Hershey. Her responsibilities there are putting her classroom experience as a business administration and communication double major at HPU into action.

The internship has allowed her to take on a supervisory role. She primarily is responsible for supervising the front desk, concierge, bellhop, greeter and guest response staffs.

Angle says her biggest job is to make sure the guests’ needs overall are met.

“I want to make sure that all guests leave feeling inspired and pleased with their choice in lodging and entertainment,” Angle says. “The company is also committed to the legacy of service, and it’s really an incredible part of the work experience at Hershey.”

Angle credits her success at her internship to HPU. She says her knowledge of the financial skills needed to manage a resort comes from her classes, and the confidence she’s gained in her communication skills at HPU has been equally as vital to her work in hospitality.

“HPU has set me up to expect great things out of life and to focus on the quality of every detail,” says Angle. “This has inspired me to reach for a career in luxury resorts that have this same attention to detail and focus on positive experiences and philanthropic pursuits.”

Angle’s long-term goal is to attend an international hotel management school and to become a hotel general manager. She sees the experimental and hands-on learning from her internship as invaluable to her future career goals.

“I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to work as a member of the team before taking on my managerial role,” Angle says. “You cannot be an effective manager without learning the tasks that you’re managing. I’m lucky enough to have found a quality company that takes pride in teaching its interns to be team players and leaders all in one.”
