Bolingbrook plan commissioners recommended approval of a proposal for a new Marriott Residence Inn after hearing from a hotel representative that the market is “fantastic.”

The commission also approved plans for a barbershop and a day care last week.

The proposed site for the new hotel is a vacant lot on Remington Boulevard, just north of the Hilton Garden Inn now under construction and across the street from SpringHill Suites, also owned by Marriott.

Commissioner Terri Bethune asked Peter Schiffer, of Love Hotel Management Company, why they chose Bolingbrook.

The demand at SpringHill Suites convinced them, Schiffer said, adding, “We saw that this market was fantastic.”

The Residence Inn would be a four-story, extended-stay hotel with 103 rooms that have kitchens,. Room rates are $125 – $130.

Commissioners expressed concerns about traffic, specifically delivery trucks. Schiffer said deliveries typically are made before 7 a.m., but could be arranged for any time.

There are plans to divide the 8.61-acre parcel and use the remainder for a professional/medical building. No tenants have been lined up, and there is no correlation between the hotel and medical building, he said in response to a question.

Bolingbrook staff recommended approval of a few exceptions to village code and ordinances for the project.

A new barbershop is proposed at Weber Road and Hassert Boulevard. Called Fade Legendz Barber Lounge, it would serve men and women of all ages, employ about 12 people and operate from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Commissioners unanimously approved a special use permit request for the shop.

With only Bethune opposed, plans for a day care in the strip mall on Lily Cache Lane and Weber Road, behind Buona Beef, also were approved..

The deli currently occupying part of the space will be relocating, and Lucky Daycare will take the two units on the south end. It’s anticipated to have capacity for 70 children, and up to nine employees. It will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and have an enclosed outdoor play area at the southwest corner.

Staff recommended approval with two conditions: that necessary permits and licensing were granted from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services before occupancy, and that landscaping affected by the play area construction be relocated or replaced.
